My name is Benita, I work for Sure Start. We offer support for parents from when you are pregnant up until your child is 5 years old. I can support you with many things such as help whilst you are pregnant, meeting with other young parents in your area, helping you to feel confidence about being a parent. I work with lots of other services who I can also get to help you if you need it. You can also come to the Children's Centre for pregnancy testing, condoms and sexual health advice. Just drop in and see me at Coalville Children's Centre.

SureStart Children's Centres are a great place to access support on a one to one basis from a Family Outreach Worker, or to attend groups.

There are eight Children's Centres in North West Leicestershire:

Ashby de la Zouch, Coalville, Ibstock, Measham, Moira, North Pavillions, Thringstone, Warren Hills.

Supporting Leicestershire Families

Hi, my name is Dette Thompson and I'm in the Teen Parent Youth Worker. I work with young parents-to-be in North West Leicestershire on a one to one basis. Our sessions would be planned by you and I can come out and work with you at home, school, public place or Greenhill Youth Centre.

I could support you with a range of issues such as; parenting, relatioships with parents / partners, contraception, attending appointments and anything else you might need. Get in touch on 07747 473886 for more information.

Baby Beginnings

A referral only programme tailored to suit early help parents. 6 weeks antenatally and 2 weeks postnatally.

An evidence based, accredited 8 week programme of antenatal education designed for vulnerable parents. The programme covers all aspects of labour, birth, feeding, caring and bonding with your newborn baby. A mixture of carefully designed sessions to include practical tasks, small group work, discussions and even crafts, all used to enhance learning and confidence. Peer support within the small groups of 8-10 is invaluable and a powerful support in the future months.

This programme is by referral only, so please speak to your midwife, health visitor or Children's Centre to find out more.

prospectsProspects are the company in Leicestershire who provide Information, Advice and Guidance for 16 to 19 year old young people on behalf of Leicestershire County Council. As part of this service we regularly get in touch with young people to see if they need our help.
Prospects Personal Advisers provide a free service at the Prospects centres in Loughborough and Hinckley and also at various community venues across the county.
We are a large, national supplier of information, advice and guidance careers services, providing universal and targeted services with intensive support for vulnerable young people.
We work with 16 – 19 year olds including young people facing transition or changes, for example those becoming NEET, leaving school, leaving care or looking for work or training or learning etc.
We explore options to help young people make the right decision when choosing careers, jobs, courses, volunteering and training opportunities.
We help young people to look for courses, jobs and training, and help with applications CV’s and interview skills.

We can also work with adults (19+) via the National Careers Service.

We hold drop in sessions in North West Leicestershire or we can arrange to meet with you at a community venue such as Libraries in Coalville, Ashby, Shepshed, Castle Donnington or Measham or a local coffee shop.

Family Information Service

Leicestershire's Family Information Service (FIS) provides information, advice and guidance for families who have children or young people aged 0-20 years. We also provide this service to professionals who work with children, young people and families.

Home Start

Home-Start North West Leicestershire is a voluntary organisation which offers weekly support to any parent in North West Leicestershire experiencing difficulties.
A volunteer with parenting experience will visit parents at home offering tailor made one to one support.

This can be direct support for children including playing, listening, having fun, establishing routines, encouraging development and providing opportunities for outings and treats.  It can be practical support help with getting to appointments, shopping, budgeting, nutrition and meal planning, cooking and making the home safe.
Emotional support someone who will listen without judging and also accompany parents to groups
